When it comes to SEO, one common refrain is that “the more things change, the more they remain the same.” What that basically means is those optimization strategies that would have worked well just a few years have now fallen by the wayside. However, here in 2020, there are still a few strategies that you should have down pat. Here are some of the most well-known.
- You should possess a full understanding of the basics.
The basics still include such concepts as keywords, search volumes, organic traffic search, and conversions from targeted keywords. You should also be aware of such things as building links, page optimization, technical SEO, and good old fashioned content. Of course, this is just the beginning. There are other concepts that go hand-in-hand with these as well.
- Take a look at your topics and keywords.
What of your topics and keywords? They’re more complicated than you think. First of all, you should understand that keywords are actually an umbrella term. It encompasses at least ten different sub-topics, including such things as Short-Tail Keywords, Long-Tail Keywords, Phrase Match Keywords, Exact Match Keywords, Negative Keywords, Branded Keywords, Keyword Synonyms, Head Keywords, Money Keywords, and Broad Match Keywords.
- Realize that SEO is not as simple as “correlation equals causation.”
In a perfect world, if you wanted to improve your SEO, all you would have to do is simply make a slight change to it and your SEO numbers would go through the roof. However, in today’s world, SEO is a lot more complex than that. You see, Google has some very complex algorithms that they put each website through. and there are times where they might even change these algorithms on a daily basis.
- Have a full understanding of White Hat SEO, Black Hat SEO, and Grey Hat SEO.
Finally, when it comes to the Google algorithms, it would really do you well to fully understand the three main SEO strategies out there. You usually have the option of White Hat SEO, Black Hat SEO, or Grey Hat SEO. White Hat SEO can be a good strategiy simply because it will follow all of Google’s guidelines to the letter. However, because they follow Google’s lead, they are often a bit behind the times. Black Hat SEO is also a solid strategy in that it will follow all of the newest and best SEO strategies. However, in their quest to throw caution to the wind they often can get on Google’s bad side. Grey Hat SEO is a strategy that actually is a combination of black and white. They do just enough to keep on Google’s good side, but they also are not afraid to try out new methods. In a sense, they are kind of walking a tightrope.
Ideally, you should go with Grey Hat SEO, and you also should realize that the more familiar you get with SEO, the better off you will be.
